Mercy Day Celebrations in Newcastle upon Tyne (High Heaton) 2017

Anyone passing the Convent of Mercy in Parkhead Road, High Heaton on Saturday 23rd September, must have wondered what on earth was going on! In this usually quiet area of the city, Associates were arriving from Alnwick and North Shields to celebrate Mercy Day, at the invitation of Sr. Bernard and Associates.

The day began at 10.30 am with a 'good' cup of tea / coffee and it was obvious from the level of noise and laughter that everyone was happy to meet up again after our very enjoyable Regional Gathering at North Shields in May.

At noon, Sr. Bernard, Sr.Patricia and 24 Associates assembled in the chapel for our special Mercy Day Mass, celebrated by Fr. Michael Stephens. Our Mass was joyful and very moving with prayers specially composed for the Feast. The Gospel (Matthew 20 (1- 16)) gave us much food for thought; challenged us and reminded us of the great generosity of our God of Love & Mercy. At the end of Mass we lit our candles, renewed our Commitment as Associates of Mercy and sang the Suscipe.

Sister Bernard is renowned for her Mercy hospitality and lunch on Saturday was up to her usual standard!! Thank you Sister and thanks also to Sister Patricia, Chris, Monica, Tommy and Eileen who also helped with the preparations for Saturday.
