The Mercy Associates in Newcastle under Lyme in Staffordshire met for the first time since the coronavirus put a stop to almost everything in the world on Wednesday, the 12th of August.
It was only a short meeting, held outdoors but with quite favourable weather for once and with social distancing rules being observed just to be on the safe side, but it was nevertheless, a most enjoyable time together and a wonderful opportunity to finally catch up with each other and pray together.
Fr. Simon Stevens of Holy Trinity Church was kind enough to join the crowd and to give the blessing. and the prayer was from Teresa of Ávila
“Christ has no body now but yours. No hands, no feet on earth but yours. Yours are the eyes through which he looks compassion on this world. Yours are the feet with which he walks to do good. Yours are the hands through which he blesses all the world. Yours are the hands, yours are the feet, yours are the eyes, you are his body. Christ has no body now on earth but yours.”
…and the suspice was sung to finish off a most enjoyable time.
The Associates enjoyed a warm apple pie with ice cream and of course in true Mercy Associates style ‘a good cup of tea’.
